Swisscom wants to modernize its network again with Ericsson

Long-standing partners Swisscom and Ericsson announced on Friday the extension of their strategic collaboration for the next three years. The aim is to transform Switzerland’s best mobile network into the smartest, with a focus on innovation, performance and energy efficiency.

Under the new agreement, Ericsson will provide the blue giant with cutting-edge products and solutions, innovative cloud infrastructure, an intelligent automation platform and advanced analytics tools such as Expert Analytics. These technologies will enable Swisscom to improve its subscriber experience while achieving operational savings through large-scale automation of the radio access network.

A next-generation mobile network

The deployment of Ericsson’s highly energy-efficient radio products and a next-generation RAN* processor, which can serve all radio technologies from a single box, mark a key milestone in Swisscom’s network modernization. In addition, the operator plans to equip numerous sites with Ericsson’s Massive MIMO** portfolio to expand mid-band 5G coverage, according to the press release .

Swisscom will also adopt a cloud solution from facebook database Ericsson to host cloud-native telecom applications, reduce infrastructure management costs and optimise energy efficiency.
