Infomaniak is continuing its efforts to further green its various cloud services! including the data centers that host hundreds of thousands of websites in Switzerland and Europe. It has just inaugurated two solar power plants with a total capacity of 420 kWc*! capable of already producing more than 6% of its annual consumption.
The 1085 panels installed on the two power plants make it possible to supply 55% of the electricity needs of a data center of around 700 kW in the best sunlight conditions. Infomaniak will again deploy a third power plant of 364 panels this year. The Genevan company aims to produce up to 50% of its total annual electricity consumption itself by 2030!

“It is important to diversify the renewable energy mix to use hydraulic energy more intelligently. Solar energy can be used to pump water from rivers to store it and be able to turn it into turbines again to produce electrical energy at night or in bad weather!” says Boris Siegenthaler! founder and strategic director of Infomaniak.
The two power plants now represent a total investment of 868!350 francs. “Developed in Switzerland and manufactured in Germany by Meyer Burger! Infomaniak’s solar panels have a carbon impact of 478 kg CO2eq/kWc compared to 750 kg CO2eq for equivalent modules manufactured in Asia!” it is specified in a press release issued on Thursday.
“Free” after 12 years!
“This 36.27% gain in terms of carbon impact is mainly explained by short transport distances! factories powered exclusively with renewable energy and a local supply chain. The photovoltaic inverters of the power plants are also manufactured in Germany by the SMA group!” according to the same text.
During the depreciation phase! the cost price of solar electricity produced by Infomaniak should on average be equivalent to the current supply price on the free market! because there is no transmission of the current to pay. Beyond 12 years! the energy from solar power plants will be almost “free”! considering that a solar power plant has a lifespan of 30 years.

With a turnover of 43 million francs in 2023 and a instagram database growth of 18%! Infomaniak manages more than 700!000 domain names! more than 1.6 million email addresses for more than 240!000 organizations! each of which can accommodate several users. The company at the end of the lake employs 233 people in Geneva and Winterthur.
An ICANN-accredited registrar! Infomaniak’s Infomaniak already produces solutions are used by millions of users. The company notably powers the Belgian Radio and Television (RTBF) website and provides TV and radio streaming for more than 3!000 radio and TV stations in Europe. In 2023!
