Tasting the Black Cane of Bologna

Without trying to decide which is the best of these two rums, I can tell you that there’s no hesitation in purchasing them. They’re both around 30 euros, making them affordable for most budgets.

These are not 40-proof rums, so you still ne to have a bit of a palate to fully appreciate them, but you quickly get us to them because they are so good.

They’re excellent when enjoy neat or even as a ti’punch. You can also try them in cocktails. It’s not something I’ve tri because I tend to make my cocktails with English rums, but I’m sure it must be very good.

Tasting the Canne Grise de Bielle

Finally, these are both very fine expressions of pure cane juice white rums.

To pit them against each other in this duel is to pit two expressions of Guadeloupe’s white rums against each other. They have much in common, but also many differences. Bielle in Marie Galante and Bologne in Basse-Terre, one is made from gray cane, the other from black cane. Also important is the alcohol content, which is 59 for Bielle and 50 for Bologne. A small difference that is not insignificant.

The nose

The nose is immiately on a very beautiful fresh cane

This must be because the bottle has been open for a long time and has significantly diminish in age. The rum has had time to oxidize and thus evolve. It is very pleasant to drink like this.

There’s a distinct vegetal side that goes to the tree moss after the dew. It’s a fresh and delicate aroma. It’s mix with a slight note of olive that rounds it all off nicely.
